During the week of 19 June 2022, MonRiveR has participated in the 39th edition of the International Congress organised by the International Association for Hydro-Environmental Engineering and Research (IAHR) in the city of Granada.
In Spain, the congress has the support of the Ministries for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, through the aforementioned General Directorates for Water and the Coast and Sea, and the Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation (CEDEX). It also has the support of the Regional Government of Andalusia, the main Spanish universities and other public and private entities in the water sector.
The Granada congress, with the slogan 'From Snow to Sea', will emphasise the importance of integrated management of water and its environment in order to respond to current global challenges, bearing in mind the UN's 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Pact, as well as aspects relating to climate change, sustainability, innovation and artificial intelligence, among others. In addition, the event will allow Spain to visualise and highlight at international level the importance of the legacy and historical heritage, its conservation, its management and how to learn from the past to design a better future in relation to an essential resource for our survival and social well-being: water, as well as highlighting the advances that have taken place and are currently taking place in this area.
MonRiveR's participation in this congress has been a magnificent opportunity to meet with the international scientific community specialising in the water and environment sector, to share knowledge and advances in research in the water sector and especially in the fluvial field.
The paper presented was entitled "The identification of missing elements of the cultural, architectural and natural heritage linked to the urban river Monelos (Spain)".
